24-Hour Itinerary in Budapest
If you only have 24 hours in Budapest, you will need to make the most of your time! Here is an itinerary that will give you a taste of the city's history, culture, and food.
9:00 AM: Check in to your hotel and drop off your bags. Budapest is a very walkable city, so put on some comfortable shoes and get ready to explore!
10:00 AM: Start your day with a local treat: chimney cake! This sweet pastry is made by wrapping dough around a cylinder and grilling it over an open flame. It's crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and coated in sugar and cinnamon. You can find it at many street vendors around the city.
11:00 AM: Walk down the famous Vaci Street, which is lined with shops, cafes, and restaurants. Enjoy the lively atmosphere and soak up the energy of the city.
12:00 AM: Visit the Grand Market Hall, which is located at the end of Vaci Street. This is a great place to try to find Hungarian delicacies, such as paprika sausage, and Hungarian spices, as well as souvenirs and handmade crafts for you to bring home.
2:00 PM: Take a stroll along the Danube River and enjoy the views of the Buda Castle and the Parliament Building. You can also visit the Shoes on the Danube Memorial, which honours the Jewish victims who were killed by the Arrow Cross militia during World War II.
3:00 PM: Visit Fisherman's Bastion, which is a terrace overlooking the Danube River and the city. This neo-Gothic structure was built in the late 19th century and offers panoramic views of Budapest. Take some photos and enjoy the scenery!
4:00 PM: Walk over to St. Stephen's Basilica, which is one of the largest churches in Budapest. It's named after the first king of Hungary and houses his mummified right hand. You can also climb to the top of the dome for more views of the city.
6:00 PM: End your day with a relaxing soak in one of Budapest's famous thermal baths. The Széchenyi Thermal Bath is one of the most popular and offers indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, and steam rooms.
8:00 PM: Enjoy a traditional Hungarian dinner at a local restaurant. Try some stuffed cabbage, chicken paprikash, or beef stew. Don't forget to wash it down with some local wine of beer!
10:00 PM: Head back to your hotel and get some rest. You've had a busy day, but you've also experienced some of the best that Budapest has to offer.
